The 2023 Plater Institute will provide faculty and staff with the opportunity to share new, exciting, and innovative ways of engaging students in high-impact experiences such as:
- service learning and community-based learning,
- collaborative assignments and projects,
- internships,
- capstone projects and courses,
- ePortfolios,
- learning communities,
- undergraduate research,
- writing-intensive courses,
- first-year seminars and experiences,
- common intellectual experiences, and
- diversity and global learning.
The review committee will prioritize proposals that include: evidence that the high-impact learning experience
- achieves learning outcomes,
- promotes student success (e.g. lower DFW rates, increased graduation or retention rates, etc.),
- Is inclusive and supports students from diverse backgrounds,
- documenting the effectiveness/challenges related to the work, and commentary on how the implementation of these experiences supports the IUPUI Profiles of Learning for Undergraduate Success (“the Profiles”) and the Experiential and
Applied Learning Record (the “Record”).
Proposals on any topic, from all disciplines are welcome. Proposals are requested for the following categories:
- Project Level Proposals: Proposals related to activities, assignments, signature assignments, community engagement, learning experiences outside the classroom, Project-Based Learning, ePortfolios, etc.
- Course Oriented Proposals: Proposals related to capstones, internships, engagement with stakeholders beyond the classroom, related series/sequence of assignments, engaged assessment, Project-Based Learning, ePortfolios, etc.
- Program Oriented Proposals: Course alignment to program outcomes, degreeoriented ePortfolios, creative advising, engaged assessment for program alignment, etc.
- Engaged Learning at Scale: High impact practices implemented at scale (500+ students) -OR- Project-Based Learning across a curriculum, involvement by all students within a cohort/major/program, ePortfolios across academic units, etc.
Proposals for all categories are encouraged in the following formats:
- 15-Minute Presentation (15-minute presentation, 5 minute Q&A)
- 30-minute workshop
- Networking Session: sharing a poster, slide show, or ePortfolio
** You may propose more than one presentation in one or both formats
